Neuropsicología de los traumatismos craneoencefálicos

incrementan la probabilidad de sufrir depresión mayor.

Los síntomas maniacos son menos comunes, pero también pueden aparecer tras traumatismo craneoencefálico (TCE). Aparecen cambios en el humor, sueño y activación que pueden manifestarse como irritabilidad, euforia, insomnio, agitación, agresión, impulsividad o conductas violentas. Se asocia con lesiones límbicas del hemisferio derecho.

Los trastornos de ansiedad son frecuentes en todas sus variantes. Suelen presentarse sensaciones ansiosas relacionadas con preocupaciones persistentes, tensión y miedos. Las lesiones derechas suelen producir más ansiedad que las izquierdas.

Algunos pacientes presentan síntomas psicóticos, como delirios y alucinaciones y pensamientos extraños. En ocasiones aparecen agitación, ideas de referencia, conductas extrañas o agresiones impulsivas. Suele estar asociada a lesiones del lóbulo temporal y en ocasiones del frontal.
